Thinking about Powerleveling your WoW character?

Some questions have come up about whether powerleveling (taking a character to high levels in a very short amount of time) is worth the money. I've never used powerleveling as I prefer to earn my stripes going through the game. That being said, there might be some spots where paying the price for a leveling service is worthwhile. If you've already gone through the game a few times and have a couple level 60+ characters, but want to create one more, then it might not be a bad idea to use a powerleveling service. They can get you into the high levels fairly quickly. Doing a little math and using Joana's Horde Leveling Guide, it would take 3+ weeks to reach level 60 if you were able to make it in 5 game days. That's 40+ hours a week for 3+ weeks, basically a second job. You would really have to be dedicated to get the character that far that fast. Then again for $150-200, someone could do the work for you and get you there in less time.

The next question then would be which services to trust. Since I've never used them, I can't really comment, but a friend has used Guy4Game.com. He said it was a good company and they delivered everything they promised. Be aware there are some companies that will take your money and run or worse yet, get your account banned from World of Warcraft altogether.

WoW Horde Leveling Tips

Some quick pointers to help you level a little faster.

1 - If leveling is the most important priority, then you can skip the professions except First Aid.

2 - Auto Run can help you multitask. You can type or manage your inventory while auto running.

3 - Make sure you have plenty of ammo before you leave town. Also make sure that your equipment is fully repaired. Nothing like going on a far off quest to see your main weapon in need of repair half way through the quest.

4 - If your inventory is full, don't return to town. Destroy some cheap items and keep going.

Those should speed up your Horde leveling. Joana's Horde leveling guide has some other excellent tips as well as some class specific tips for faster leveling.

WoW Horde Leveling 20 and up

Congratulations! Your Horde character has made it to level 20. You obviously like this character enough to get them to this point and want to see them progress further. There are a lot of different options at this point and I'll point out a few good guides to look at to see what your options are.

Jame's Horde Leveling Guide - Chapter I (21-31)

Chapter II (31-40)

Chapter III (40-51)

Chapter IV (51-60)

I mentioned Joana's guide earlier.Joana was one of the beta testers for Burning Crusade and has already written the guide for levels 60-70. Since BC just came out, this is the ONLY guide available with information on getting a Horde character to level 80. Considering the Official Guide is $24.99 and weighs 10 pounds (ok, not really, but it's not something you could sneak in to work and read at your desk), Joana's guide is worth the extra money. Keep a copy at work and one at home. Nothing like printing off a few pages for some bathroom reading or a little studying during lunch. Just don't tell my boss that's what I do, ok?

WoW Horde Leveling 12-20

The Barrens will be your new home for the next few levels. There’s a good deal to do here and the mobs range from 12 to 20+ so be careful running around. You don’t want to get in over your head fighting mobs that are too tough for you.

Once you arrive in the Barrens, turn in “Conscript of the Horde” and get “Crossroads Conscription”. Also turn in “Ak’Zeloth”. Skip “The Demon Seed” quest. Run to XRs. A hunter could tame a Savannah Huntress cat at this point if they want. Accept all the quests at XRs and then make it your home.

There are a couple of good guides that layout how the quests in the Barrens should be performed.

Guide to The Barrens

Azzor.com - The Barrens

Another option is Joana’s Horde Leveling Guide. Joana went from 1-80 in less than 7 game days which is pretty cool. Considering he did it without hacks or cheating, and it's even more impressive. He’s set at least one new server record for fastest to 80. He also recorded the whole process on video and includes the video with his guide. It's by far the best step-by-step guide available for leveling a Horde character. The catch? It's $45.

WoW Horde Leveling 6-12

Last time, we stopped at Razor Hill to rest. Now is the time to get up and get back to leveling that Horde character of yours. Here are some suggestions on how to quickly get from 6-12. Before you leave Razor Hill, make sure you get First Aid as a profession.

Get all of the quests on Razor Hill. There are 5: “Encroachment”, “Dark Storms”, “Break a Few Eggs”, “Vanquish the Betrayers”, and “Carry Your Weight”. The last one is in the watch tower nearby.

Start with “Vanquish the Betrayers” and “Carry Your Weight”. Once Benedict is dead, take his key and open the chest to start “The Admiral’s Orders” quest. Turn in your two completed quests and go complete “A Solvent Spirit” and “From the Wreckage” near the water that is to the east of Tiragarde Keep. Go complete “Encroachment” as well. If you aren’t level 8 yet, what is wrong with you? Just kidding. Grind around until you reach level 8, then head for Razor Hill to get spells.
Head south to complete “Thwarting Kolkar Aggression” and turn it in. Go to Echo Isles and complete the following 4 quests “ Practical Prey”, “Zalazane”, “Break A Few Eggs”, and “Minshina’s Skull”. Now, and this is only to save time, go find the toughest mob you can and attack them. DO NOT heal yourself. If you die, so much the better, if you win, good experience. If you are still alive after doing this a few times, die on purpose. Now where are you? Sen’jin Village? Yup. Turn in all of those quests you compelted and then hearth to Razor Hill. Do the second part of “Encroachment” and go get “Lost But Not Forgotten”. While heading north, grind mobs until you reach a goblin who gives you “Winds in the Desert”. Do that quest and turn it in. Grind some mobs to reach level 10.

Go back to Razor Hill to turn in “Encroachment” and to level up.

At this point, hunters can complete the three pet quests and get their first pet. Other classes should turn in “The Admiral’s Orders” to Thrall and receive “Hidden Enemies”. Go to Cleft of Shadow to get “Finding the Antidote”. Go complete “Securing the Lines” and turn it in. Next, complete ‘Finding the Antidote” and “Lost but Not Forgotten” followed by “Dark Storms”. Turn in “Lost but Not Forgotten” and “Dark Storms” to get “Margoz”. Complete that quest and turn it in and get “Skull Rock”. Go complete ‘Skull Rock” as well as “Hidden Enemies”. When you kill Gazz’uz, make sure you loot him to get the Eye of Burning Shadow. This starts “Burning Shadows”. Turn in “Skull Rock” to get “Neeru Fireblade”. Go to Orgrimmar to turn in “Hidden Enemies” and get the second part of that quest. Go turn in “Neeru Fireblade” and “Burning Shadows”. Get “Ak’Zeloth”. Keep talking to the contact to complete ‘Hidden Enemies” as well. Go back to Thrall and turn in “Hidden Enemies”. You can skip the 3rd part since it’s an Instance, if you want to speed up the leveling. Leave Orgrimmar and turn in “Need for a Cure”. You should be level 12 now. If not, do a little grinding until you reach it. Use the hearth to get to Razor Hill. Build up First Aid as well as get new spells/abilities. Get “Conscript of the Horde”. Time for the Barrens. Head west to enter the Barrens.

Another good time to take a break. Your WoW Horde character should now be level 12 with good First Aid abilites to help you as you progress.

WoW Horde Leveling 1-6

Here are some quick pointers to get you started on leveling an Horde character as quick as possible. Keep in mind, that there are suggestions and you can certainly differentiate from that when you want. These tips will help you avoid the less worthwhile quests and maximize your time in the early part of the game. This is for starting as an Orc or Troll in Durotar.

Get “Cutting Teeth”, “Sting of the Scorpion”, “Serkoth” and then “Vile Familiars.” Once you’ve completed those, turn them in and get “Galgar’s Cactus Apple Surprise” and “Lazy Peons”. Turn those in and get “Burning Blade Medallion” and “Thazz’ril’s Pick”. Use the hearth stone to return to Durotar. Turn in “Burning Blade Medallion” and “Thazz’ril’s Pick” and get “Report to Sen’jin Village”. Leave Durotar and head to Sen’jin Village. On the way there, get “A Peon’s Burden” and “Thwarting Kolkar Aggression”. Go turn in “Report to Sen’jin Village”. Start collecting all of the quests around the village. One tip, try not to do “A Solvent Spirit” in the water around the village. Head towards Razor Hill. Feel free to grind on the mobs along the way. Make sure you reach level 6 before you get there so you can pick up some new skills. Before you take a break, make Razor Hill your home.

Time to rest, both in the game and at the computer. Get up, move around, get something to eat and some fresh air. The next trip will be from level 6-12.

Why Questing is the Fastest (and most enjoyable) Way to Level

Personally, I find questing to be much more rewarding, both in terms of game experience and in how fast my character progresses. WoW quests help my characters level faster than outright grinding. Questing also gets me involved in the story of World of Warcraft. To me, grinding is like killing ants with a magnifying glass. Yeah, it can be fun for a little while, but unless you are a really sadistic person, the fun factor wears off quickly. WoW wasn’t created for thousands of people to get online and wander aimlessly killing stuff. The quests are the meat of the game and serve as mini-goals for players to accomplish. Besides, if all I wanted to do was run around and kill stuff, I could play Counterstrike.....and it's free.

The trick for leveling quickly with quests is to complete the right ones at the right time. Do you need to complete all of the quests in the game? My experience tells me no. I’ve also seen some guides that recommend skipping certain quests either because of the time involved or the travel to get to it. Since this is about Horde leveling, I'll see if I can point out a few early ones along the way that can help out those getting started.
